Each year the riverside town of Saltash, Cornwall organise and host the annual Saltash Regatta and Waterside Festival. This year marked the 180th anniversary of the festival with thousands of people attending what is one of the Cornwall’s most colourful events in glorious weather.
The weekend festival see’s entertainment of all varieties, from live music and children’s entertainers to water based races and competitions with a colourful market including a range of food vendors, craft stands and entertainers. Sir Francis Drake, and the Pirates of the Tamar provided a unique theme!
Alongside the event ran Saltash’s own, Caradon Pilot Gig Clubs County Mixed and Veterans Rowing Championships. A main attraction of Saltash Regatta, the competition saw more than150 crews taking to the river in competitive races. The championship runs over two days and is one of the main regattas in the gig rowing season.
This year Composite Integration Ltd was very proud to support the event with gold sponsorship. Joe Ellison, deputy chairman of the regatta committee said ‘The Regatta committee is extremely grateful for community financial support from our major local companies. We are a small group of 8 – 10 volunteers, working entirely unpaid. The sponsorship that we raise enables us not only to meet the considerable fixed costs of staging this major event (portaloos, medical cover, road closures and hire of three free shuttle buses for instance), but also to improve year on year the variety and quality of the live musicians and street entertainers. The 2014 Regatta was the busiest ever, with an estimated 8-10,000 visitors enjoying two days of glorious weather.’
Richard Bland commented ‘Composite Integration is proud to be based in Saltash and to support this fantastic local event. The size of the event and the professionalism of the organisation demonstrates what can be achieved by a small and dedicated team.’
