Training RTM and Resin Infusion Familiarisation training

Composite Integration have regularly delivered the highly successful 'Resin Transfer Moulding and Resin Infusion Familiarisation' course at the UK's National Composites Centre (Bristol) over the last two years.

Manufacturers investigating the various ‘closed mould’ processing techniques are often confused by the information that is publicly available. Therefore identifying the appropriate process for a particular application can be challenging.

As associate members of the NCC, we identified the need to develop a training course with practical demonstrations to clarify and clearly explain the advantages and disadvantages of each process and identify the key influencing factors and relevant materials used.

The Training
The one-day training course is an introduction to closed moulding, including examples of various projects and the differences between the various types (Resin Infusion (RI), Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), Light RTM, Vacuum RTM).
Content includes a general explanation of the fundamental principles, different processes, considerations relating to pressure and vacuum, and the advantages and disadvantages of each process.

As part of this course, practical workshop demonstrations take place in the NCC’s purpose-built industrial training workshop:
• Demonstration using a glass-topped flat panel mould to illustrate the VRTM process and to show the effect of the various process parameters
• Demonstration of a more complex mould with the inclusion of core materials and integrated metal inserts
• Demonstration of the Resin Infusion process
Who should attend?
Delegates who would like to understand the fundamentals of closed mould techniques and applications. We would recommend attending the NCC’c Introduction to Composite Materials, Properties and Processes course or have working knowledge of composites as a prerequisite. An understanding of composites processes will ensure you get the best from this course.

Testimonials
The Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) and Resin Infusion (RI) Familiarisation course is now scheduled regularly through the academic year and open for customer bookings. We encourage delegates to complete feedback forms at the end of every course. When delegates were asked for their feedback on the RTM and RI Familiarisation course, this is what they had to say:

‘Excellent knowledge from trainer in all aspects of RTM & RI’
Kieran McCormack, Technology Programme Lead – NCC

‘Excellent insight into RTM, excellent trainer covering basics and enjoyed workshop demo. Overall exceptional and very enjoyable and helped provide me with a rounded view of RTM to engage with customers’
Chris Boulton, Key Account Manager – 3M
